If you would rather not buy a whole new wardrobe for one trip, that is completely fine. Outfits can be rented too, and borrowing from family and friends is very much a thing here.

Just keep in mind that rentals are hard to find in Coorg itself, so this needs to be arranged in Bangalore before heading to the venue.

Please reach out to Neethy and we will plan it out together in advance.

Arriving Early in Bangalore?

If you are flying in before 4th December, we will share hotel recommendations in Bangalore at different price points. Bangalore is very much worth a day of exploring.

What to Expect at the Resort

  • Lush estate surrounded by coffee and spice plantations
  • Outdoor ceremony spaces, fresh mountain air, beautiful scenery
  • All meals and activities during the wedding days are included. Personal expenses outside of this are your own.
  • WiFi is available at the resort. Mobile signal can be patchy in parts of Coorg.

Visa for India

  • Most nationalities are eligible for India's e-Tourist Visa (eTV), including guests from Germany, UK, other EU countries, the USA, South Korea, Russia, and Ukraine. Apply online at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least 2 to 3 weeks before travel. Select "Tourist" as the visa type. A 30-day e-visa is sufficient for the wedding trip. You will need a valid passport (at least 6 months validity beyond your travel dates), a recent passport-size photograph, and a return ticket or onward travel confirmation. Processing typically takes 3 to 5 working days and you will receive approval by email. Print a copy to carry with you.
  • The 30-day e-tourist visa fee is approximately USD 25 for most nationalities including Germany, other EU countries, USA, South Korea, Ukraine, and Russia. UK nationals may be subject to different fees on longer-duration visas due to reciprocal pricing, but the 30-day visa should be the same. Fees are non-refundable, and a bank charge of 2.5% is added at checkout. Always confirm your exact fee at indianvisaonline.gov.in when applying, as fees are nationality-specific and can change.
  • Chinese passport holders living in the UK: You will need to apply for a regular visa through the High Commission of India in London, processed via VFS Global. Please visit vfsglobal.com/india/uk to book an appointment and see the full document checklist. Processing can take 10 to 15 working days, so apply well in advance.
  • Important for all guests: India now requires all foreign nationals to submit a mandatory e-Arrival Card before travel. Submit it online no earlier than 72 hours before your scheduled arrival at indianvisaonline.gov.in/earrival or via the Su-Swagatam app. After submitting you will receive a QR code. Save it on your phone and carry a printed backup. Airlines will check it at check-in, and immigration officers will scan it on arrival. Paper forms are no longer accepted. This is free and takes about 5 minutes. It is separate from your visa.

Recommended Vaccinations

No vaccinations are mandatory for guests travelling from Germany, UK, EU countries, the USA, South Korea, or Russia. The exception is Yellow Fever, which is only required if you are arriving from or have recently transited through a Yellow Fever endemic country (parts of Africa or South America). This does not apply to most of our guests.

The following are recommended but not required. Check with your doctor or travel clinic to confirm your status. We suggest doing this 6 to 8 weeks before your trip.

  • Hepatitis A: recommended for all travellers. Two doses provide protection for up to 20 years.
  • Hepatitis B: recommended, especially if you may need medical care during your trip. Standard 3-dose series, valid for life once completed.
  • Typhoid: recommended. Injection valid for 3 years; oral capsules valid for 5 years.
  • Tetanus / Diphtheria / Polio (Td/Tdap): ensure you are up to date. Booster recommended every 10 years.
  • Malaria: risk is low in Coorg in December. If you are travelling to other regions of India before or after the wedding, discuss malaria prophylaxis with your GP.
  • COVID-19: keep up to date with your home country's current guidance.

Useful resources: CDC Yellow Book: India (for US guests) and Travel Health Pro: India (for UK and EU guests).

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is always a sensible precaution for any international trip. That said, it is worth knowing that accessing a clinic or hospital in India is generally straightforward and considerably more affordable than in Europe or the US, including in Bangalore and in Coorg town. Do as you feel is right for your own peace of mind.

Practical Travel Guide

Staying connected, getting around, and a few things worth knowing.

WiFi at the Resort

WiFi is available at Coorg Wilderness throughout your stay. Mobile signal can be patchy in some parts of Coorg, so do not rely solely on cellular data while at the resort.

Option 1: Local Indian SIM (Recommended)

The simplest and most cost-effective option. Pick up a Jio or Airtel SIM at Bangalore Airport arrivals. Fast, affordable data, and it works almost everywhere. Your passport is required for registration.

Option 2: eSIM (Great for Independent Travellers)

If your phone supports eSIM, you can activate an India data plan before you even leave home. Providers like Airalo, Nomad, or Holafly offer India plans from just a few dollars. No SIM swap, no waiting at the airport. Reach out to us if you need help setting one up.

Option 3: International Day Pass from Your Home Carrier

If you want to keep your own number active, most major carriers offer day passes that work in India:

USA · Verizon
TravelPass
$12 / day

Unlimited talk, text & data (5GB high-speed, then 3G). Only charged on days you use your phone abroad.

Cards

All major Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted across India: hotels, restaurants, shops, and most services. American Express is accepted only at major retailers and in larger cities; it is not reliable in smaller towns or rural areas like Coorg.

Cash

It is advisable to carry some cash in Indian Rupees (INR) for auto-rickshaws, local markets, tips, and smaller shops. ATMs are widely available across India: at Bangalore Airport, in Madikeri town (nearest to Coorg), and throughout all cities and shopping areas. You can also exchange currency at Bangalore Airport on arrival. Picking up some rupees on arrival is a practical idea for the journey to the resort.

A Note on Safety

We would advise against travelling alone at odd hours, particularly late at night or very early in the morning, especially in unfamiliar areas. If possible, take a local or a trusted companion with you.

Taxis & Rickshaws

Uber works well in major cities including Bangalore: reliable, trackable, and no fare negotiation needed. Auto-rickshaws are available almost everywhere and are a fun way to get around locally. Agree on the fare before you set off, or ask the driver to use the meter. Carrying cash in rupees is recommended as many rickshaw drivers do not accept cards.

Food

The food in India is one of the great pleasures of the trip. Your stomach may just need a day or two to adjust to the change in spices and diet. Prefer clean, busy restaurants. A full restaurant is a good sign. We suggest avoiding street food for the first few days while you settle in.

Drinking Water

Tap water is not safe to drink in India. Always use sealed bottled water when travelling. Bisleri, Kinley, and Aquafina are reliable brands available everywhere. Drinking water is provided at Coorg Wilderness throughout your stay.

Sun & Hydration

Coorg in December is mild, but the sun can be strong in the afternoon. Sunscreen and regular hydration are good habits throughout the day, especially if you are spending time outdoors.

Health & Medicines

If you are travelling independently, it is worth bringing a small travel kit: antihistamines, rehydration sachets (Electral), antacids, and any prescription medicines you need. Indian pharmacies are well-stocked, and clinics and hospitals are accessible and affordable both in Bangalore and in Coorg town, so there is no need to overpack.

A Note From Neethy

Welcome to India

🌺 🪔 🌿 ☕ 🌶️

I was born in Coorg and grew up in Bangalore. Two very different places, both a big part of who I am.

Bangalore gave me the chaos I grew up loving: the traffic, the food, the energy of a city that never really stops, and the diverse culture. Coorg is where I spent all my summers growing up. My grandmother's house, the hills, slow mornings and really good food, the scent of burning firewood in the air, animals and beautiful scenery.

I am so glad I get to share both with you.

India can feel like a lot when you first land: the noise, the energy, the crowds. And that is completely normal. Eat as much as you can. See what you can. And whenever you need us, we are just a message away.

🍛

The Food
Every state, every family, its own cuisine. South Indian cooking is a revelation. Try everything at least once.

🏛️

The Architecture
From Mughal palaces to Dravidian temples to colonial waterfronts. India's built history is staggering in its range and scale.

Coorg Coffee
Some of India's finest coffee grows right here. You will drink it fresh off the estate, farm to cup.

🙏

The Warmth
Atithi Devo Bhava, meaning "the guest is God." Hospitality in India is not a courtesy, it is a way of life. You will feel it from the moment you arrive.

The Adventure Continues

Explore India

Following the wedding, we are heading off on a 10 day tour of South India. Join us, or explore at your own pace!

Here are a few places we'd like to explore after our wedding in Coorg. We will plan a detailed itinerary based on the number of people joining us and the feedback we receive.

Our Route
Tadiandamol / Mandalpatti → Belur & Halebidu → Mysore → Kabini → Wayanad → Meesapulimala → Munnar → Thekkady → Alleppey → Bangalore
Trek
Tadiandamol
Coorg, Karnataka, 1,748m
"Coorg's highest peak with 360° views of the Western Ghats"

Tadiandamol is the highest peak in Coorg, rising to 1,748 metres above the coffee and spice estates of the Western Ghats. The summit trail passes through shola forests draped in mist, across open grasslands with sweeping valley views, and into a stillness rarely found in South India. In December the skies are crisp and clear, the air cool and sharp, and the red coffee cherries on the estates below are at peak harvest. It is one of the most beautiful high-altitude landscapes in Karnataka.

Jeep Safari
Mandalpatti
Coorg, Karnataka · 1,500m
"A sweeping plateau above the clouds, reached by open jeep through forest"

Mandalpatti is a high open plateau in the Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, reached by jeep safari along a steep rocky forest track that is half the adventure. The plateau itself is extraordinary, a vast open grassland at 1,500 metres with uninterrupted 360 degree views of the Western Ghats, the Kaveri valley and the coffee estate hills of Coorg. On clear December mornings the valley below fills with mist and the plateau rises above it into sharp blue sky. Unlike Tadiandamol, no trekking is required, making it accessible to everyone in the group regardless of fitness. The two can be run simultaneously on the same morning from the same base near Kakkabe.

UNESCO Heritage
Belur and Halebidu
Hassan District, Karnataka
"12th century stone carvings that rival Angkor Wat in intricacy"

Belur and Halebidu are the twin masterpieces of the Hoysala Empire, built in the 12th century from soft soapstone that allowed sculptors to carve with extraordinary intricacy. The Hoysaleswara Temple at Halebidu has a continuous frieze running 163 metres around its base, elephants, lions, horses, scrolling vines, scenes from the epics and over a thousand individual figures, no two alike. Belur's Chennakeshava Temple took 103 years to build. These are not ruins, they are intact, living temples of breathtaking craftsmanship that rival Angkor Wat in ambition and detail.

Royal Heritage
Mysore
Karnataka, City of Palaces
"India's most illuminated palace and a city of silk and sandalwood"

Mysore is the former royal capital of the Wodeyar kings, who ruled for over five centuries and built a city of exceptional refinement and grandeur. The Mysore Palace is one of the largest royal buildings in India, a magnificent Indo-Saracenic structure of domes, turrets, arches and painted halls that took fifteen years to build. Every Sunday evening it is illuminated by 97,000 bulbs, transforming it into one of the most spectacular sights in South India. The city carries this royal character in its wide boulevards, silk weaving tradition, sandalwood industry and the flower-filled Devaraja Market.

Tiger Reserve
Kabini
Karnataka, Tiger Reserve
"Wild elephant herds, black panthers and the finest wildlife boat safari in South India"

Nagarhole National Park and its Kabini reservoir form one of the finest wildlife landscapes in Asia. The park is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, the largest protected forest area in South India, and shelters the highest density of tigers and leopards on the Indian subcontinent. The Kabini backwater is where the reservoir meets ancient dry deciduous forest at the edge of Nagarhole National Park. At dusk, some of the largest wild elephant herds in Asia wade into the golden water to drink and bathe, sometimes fifty or more animals at once, moving between the forest and the river as they have for thousands of years. This is wild, free elephants in their own landscape, entirely on their own terms. No captivity, no commands, no contact. Just one of the most extraordinary wildlife spectacles on earth, watched from a quiet boat on the water. Kabini is also one of the very few places in the world where the rare black panther has been repeatedly photographed and filmed.

Wayanad
Northern Kerala
"Wild elephant country, prehistoric cave art, sacred forest temples and one of Kerala's finest treks"

Wayanad is a forested hill district in northern Kerala, sitting at around 900 metres and draped in coffee, tea, pepper and cardamom estates. It is one of the most beautiful places in Kerala that most visitors skip entirely. The drive through Wayanad from Karnataka is stunning, winding through dense teak and bamboo forests where wild elephant herds cross the road with regularity. The Edakkal Caves near Ambalavayal contain prehistoric rock engravings over 6,000 years old, some of the oldest in India. Neolithic figures and symbols carved into a natural rock cleft, with light falling through from above. Chembra Peak offers one of the finest treks in Kerala, a half-day walk through grassland and shola forest to a summit with a heart-shaped lake near the top. The Muthanga and Tholpetty wildlife ranges are excellent for jeep safaris with near-guaranteed elephant sightings. Thirunelli Temple, an ancient open-air shrine built without mortar deep in the forest with a mountain stream running through its courtyard, is one of the most atmospheric places in Kerala. The town of Kalpetta has good coffee shops and local markets worth an evening wander.

Meesapulimala
Munnar, Kerala, 2,640m
"Kerala's second highest peak, clouds below you at the summit"

Meesapulimala is Kerala's second highest peak at 2,640 metres, rising above the tea estates of Munnar into a world of ancient shola forest and high-altitude grassland found nowhere else on earth. The name translates to "moustache of the tiger mountain" in Tamil. On clear December mornings the summit stands above the cloud line, below you a white sea of mist fills the valleys, above you nothing but blue sky and the Western Ghats rolling away to the horizon. It is one of the most beautiful and genuinely remote landscapes in South India.

Tea Country
Munnar
Kerala, Western Ghats
"Rolling tea estates, mist, the world's highest tea plantation and rare mountain goats"

Munnar is a landscape of extraordinary beauty, sitting at 1,600 metres in the Western Ghats where three mountain rivers meet. Every hillside is covered in the vivid green geometry of tea estates, interrupted by stands of ancient shola forest and silver waterfalls. The air smells of eucalyptus and cardamom. At dawn, before the mist lifts, the valleys fill with clouds and the upper ridges float above them like islands. Kolukkumalai, the world's highest tea plantation at 2,100m, has been producing exceptional tea in a 1930s wooden factory, unchanged for nearly a century, since the British first planted these hills.

Thekkady
Kerala, Spice Capital of India
"Periyar wildlife sanctuary, spice plantations and Kalaripayattu"

Thekkady is the gateway to the Periyar Tiger Reserve, one of India's most important wildlife sanctuaries, and sits in the heart of Kerala's spice-growing country. The town of Kumily is surrounded by working cardamom, pepper, vanilla and cinnamon estates where the spices that drove the ancient spice trade still grow in abundance. The Periyar lake, created by a colonial era dam inside the forest, gives the reserve an extraordinary character. A still expanse of blue water surrounded by dense tiger country where wild elephants, gaur, sambar deer and rare birds appear at the banks. Elephant sightings on the Periyar boat safari are common in December when the dry season draws herds to the water.

Backwaters
Alleppey
Kerala, Venice of the East
"Floating through rice fields and coconut canals on a traditional houseboat"

Alleppey is the heart of the Kerala backwaters, a vast ancient network of lakes, canals, rivers and lagoons that runs parallel to the Arabian Sea coast. Villages, temples, churches and rice fields line the water's edge, and the only way to see them properly is from the water. The traditional kettuvallam, a converted rice barge with a woven bamboo and palm hull, teak deck and open-sided living rooms, drifts silently through this landscape at the pace of the current. At sunset, the light on the water is extraordinary and the silence is complete.

Bangalore is one of Asia's most dynamic cities. Ancient tanks and garden boulevards sit alongside the 18th century summer palace of Tipu Sultan and the gleaming towers of a global technology industry. The old city around the KR Market and the Pete area preserves the character of the Wodeyar-era trading city, while Lalbagh Botanical Garden, laid out in 1760 with over 1,800 species of plants, offers unexpected tranquility at the heart of a city of twelve million people. Karnataka, 340 km from Bangalore
"A lost empire frozen in stone across a boulder moonscape"

Hampi is one of the most extraordinary places in Asia, the ruins of Vijayanagara, once the wealthiest and second largest city on earth, spread across fifteen square kilometres of an alien boulder landscape on the banks of the Tungabhadra river. In the 14th to 16th centuries this was a city of 500,000 people, greater than London and Paris combined at the time. It was destroyed in a single catastrophic battle in 1565 and never rebuilt. What remains, the stone chariot, the elephant stables, the Vittala Temple with its musical granite pillars, the queen's bath, the lotus mahal, lies scattered among house-sized boulders in a landscape of haunting, otherworldly beauty.

Kathakali
Kathakali
Kerala
Classical Theatre

Kathakali is one of the oldest and most visually arresting theatre traditions in the world. The performers spend up to eight hours having their makeup and costumes applied. Intricate landscapes of colour, coded precisely to character and emotion, take shape before they have even stepped onstage. The dance-drama draws on Sanskrit epics, performed through a precise vocabulary of hand gestures and eye movements that takes years to master. Arriving before the performance to watch the makeup being applied is as extraordinary as the show itself.

Theyyam
Theyyam
Northern Kerala
Ritual Performance · Oct to Mar

Theyyam is not theatre, it is something far older and more unsettling. In the temples of northern Kerala, a performer dons a costume of extraordinary scale and colour, undergoes ritual preparation and, through trance, fire and devotion, becomes the deity they embody. Families travel for hours and wait all night for their moment. The fire-walking, the towering headdresses and the absolute sincerity of belief make it one of the most powerful things a person can witness. It happens in the temples of Kannur and Kasargod during the October to March season.

Bharatanatyam
Bharatanatyam
Mysore or Bangalore
Classical Dance

South India's most celebrated classical dance form, with roots going back over 2,000 years to the temple traditions of Tamil Nadu. Every gesture, eye movement and footstep carries precise meaning, it is simultaneously athletic, devotional and deeply beautiful. A private courtyard performance in Mysore, with a short introduction to the language of gestures beforehand, turns it from a show into a revelation. Something we would love to arrange for the group as an evening together.

Kalaripayattu
Kalaripayattu
Thekkady, Kerala
Martial Arts

The world's oldest martial art, originating in Kerala over 3,000 years ago and believed to be the ancestor of all Asian martial arts. The performance combines acrobatics, weapons work and combat sequences of extraordinary speed and precision. It is genuinely breathtaking to watch, and unlike anything in the Western martial arts tradition. An evening show at Thekkady is already part of our plan.

Mysore Silk Sarees
Mysore Silk Sarees
Mysore, Karnataka
Shopping

Mysore silk is woven on state-controlled handlooms using pure silk and real gold zari thread, and it shows. The Cauvery Emporium on Sayyaji Rao Road is government-run with fixed prices, so there is no pressure and no bargaining. A visit to the Mysore Silk Factory lets you watch the weavers at work before you buy. For anyone wanting to take home something genuinely beautiful and made in Karnataka, a Mysore silk saree or stole is the one. The Devaraja Market nearby has sandalwood products and Mysore Pak sweet that are equally worth bringing home.

Kerala Sadya
Kerala Sadya
Munnar or Thekkady
Food

A Sadya is Kerala's great ceremonial meal, twenty or more dishes served in a specific sequence on a single banana leaf, eaten with the right hand. Rice in the centre, surrounded by sambar, avial, olan, pachadi, pickles, pappadam and the extraordinary payasam dessert. The order in which the dishes arrive, the etiquette of the leaf and the layering of flavours are all part of a tradition thousands of years old. One proper Sadya lunch in Kerala will be one of the meals people remember longest from this trip.

Kerala Ayurveda
Kerala Ayurveda
Munnar or Thekkady
Wellness

Kerala is where Ayurveda comes from, the 5,000-year-old Indian science of wellness that the rest of the world has been borrowing ever since. A traditional Abhyanga, a warm oil massage with two therapists working in synchronised movement, or a Shirodhara, where warm oil is poured in a continuous stream onto the forehead, is unlike anything available in a Western spa. After days of trekking and travel, an evening session in Munnar or Thekkady is deeply restorative. Even one session is genuinely worth it.

Kumily Spice Market
Kumily Spice Market
Thekkady, Kerala
Shopping

Thekkady sits in the middle of Kerala's spice belt. This is the same region that drew Portuguese, Arab and Chinese traders for a thousand years. The Kumily market has fresh cardamom, cinnamon, vanilla pods, black pepper, star anise and cloves at prices that will make you want to fill an entire bag. Buy vacuum-packed for ease through customs.

Kolukkumalai Sunrise Jeep Safari
Kolukkumalai Sunrise Jeep Safari
Munnar, Kerala
Experience

The world's highest tea plantation, at 2,100 metres above sea level, is reached before dawn by open jeep along a near-vertical rocky mountain track. You arrive as the sun rises over the plains of Tamil Nadu, with clouds still filling the valleys below and the first pickers arriving at a 1930s wooden tea factory operating completely unchanged for nearly a century. The combination of the drive, the altitude, the light and the factory makes for one of the most unusual and beautiful mornings in South India.

Coracle Ride on the Tungabhadra
Coracle Ride on the Tungabhadra
Hampi, Karnataka
Experience

The ancient circular bamboo and hide coracle boats have been used to cross the Tungabhadra at Hampi for at least two thousand years. The fishermen who operate them are descendants of those who ferried pilgrims to the Vijayanagara capital. A crossing takes ten minutes, spins constantly in the current and is equal parts hilarious and magical. The ruins of a lost empire are visible on both banks, giant boulders rising from the water around you. It costs almost nothing and is one of the most memorable ten minutes of the entire trip.

If you have a few extra days before or after the wedding, or are planning a longer journey, these are the places worth travelling for. Each one is unforgettable in a completely different way.
